My journey to the Centrica Graduate Programme

Lauren Baldham; My journey to the Centrica Graduate Programme

I graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2013 and heard about Centrica through joining Enactus Sheffield, an entrepreneurial student organisation which is sponsored by Centrica.

I’d been interested in the energy industry for a while as it’s always evolving and regularly under media and public scrutiny, providing an interesting and challenging graduate experience. I was attracted to Centrica in particular, partly because of the breadth of experience offered to graduates, but also because it offered a friendly and supportive work environment which is what I wanted for my first years out of University.

I personally decided to apply for the general analyst programme over midstream analyst as I wanted the experience of working in an upstream role in E&P as well as a downstream role in British Gas. My first placement is in Power Business Development which wasn’t an area that I previously knew too much about but it’s definitely an exciting business area to be part of and I’ve very much enjoyed my first month here!

Outside work I enjoy undertaking new challenges (Tough Mudder, Grim Challenge to name a few!), exploring new places (I’ve recently moved to London to see what it’s like living in the capital) and spending time with my family and friends.
