Kirsty Wilmot: my journey to the Centrica graduate programme

Before joining Centrica, I studied French and Spanish at Bristol University. I graduated in 2014 and spent the summer travelling around China and S.E. Asia before starting on the marketing stream in September.

It was the fast-moving and challenging environment of the energy industry that attracted me to pursue a career with Centrica. I also anticipated lots of opportunities to gain experience working in different areas of the business due to the rotational structure of the grad scheme.

My first three month placement is in the Edinburgh office in the Contract Management team in British Gas Business Installations, where I have been providing operational compliance support. I have settled in well and gained some valuable knowledge surrounding how we fulfil our Energy Companies Obligation (ECO). In order to get a broad exposure to the wider business, I have also sought out opportunities to listen to and calibrate calls in other teams and will hopefully be accompanying an engineer on a home visit soon as well.

One of the advantages of having placements in different parts of the business is that you get the chance to move around the country – I’m really enjoying living in Edinburgh!
