Emma Leedham - my journey to the Centrica graduate programme

I graduated from the University of Bristol in 2014 with a Masters degree in Geography. I have just joined Centrica on the Marketing stream and am excited to see where it takes me in my next few placements.

I joined Centrica because the energy industry is fast-paced, challenging and I am especially interested to see how British Gas will continue to adapt to growing concern around climate change in the next few years. Marketing appealed to me most due to the competitive nature of the industry; we’ll need to be innovative and creative in how we communicate to our customers to maintain market leader status.

My first role is within the Uddingston contact centre (near Glasgow), working within Service and Repair. It’s certainly been a learning curve – first of all I had to learn where Uddingston actually is! Within this role I have been listening to a variety of calls, to gain insight into the customer’s overall experience with British Gas, and helping a performance coach to manage a team of customer advisors which has been invaluable for developing my leadership skills.

Outside of work I love socialising with friends and going to gigs; I also have a keen interest in writing after getting involved in student journalism at University.
