Project Overview
The Winterborne Whitechurch Solar Project is a grid-scale, renewable energy development in Dorset, forming part of Centrica’s expanding portfolio of low-carbon infrastructure supporting the UK’s transition to net zero.
Once operational, the site is expected to generate enough renewable electricity to power approximately 4,600 homes annually, contributing to reduced reliance on fossil fuels and supporting long-term decarbonisation efforts.

Why is solar important?
Solar farms are important to the energy transition because they provide clean, low‑carbon electricity at scale, helping to replace fossil‑fuel generation and cut emissions. They can be built relatively quickly, increase home‑grown energy supply, and support energy security. When combined with storage and flexible generation, solar helps create a more resilient electricity system as renewable power increases.
