Project Overview
Codford Solar Farm is an 18 MW ground mounted solar site located near Codford in Wiltshire. Developed by Centrica Business Solutions, it is Centrica’s first newly built solar farm in the UK and has been operational since 2023. The site comprises around 33,000 solar panels installed across approximately 72 acres and is expected to generate around 19 GWh of electricity each year, exporting power to the UK national grid.
Around 50% of the farm’s output is contracted under a long‑term Power Purchase Agreement with Vodafone UK, with the remainder sold through Centrica’s energy trading business. The project forms part of Centrica’s wider strategy to build a portfolio of low‑carbon energy assets and increase renewable generation capacity in the UK.
"Centrica is a uniquely integrated energy company well positioned to both drive, and benefit from, the energy transition. I’m delighted that we’re now back building assets, focussing on clean electricity generation and storage."

Why is solar important?
Solar farms are important to the energy transition because they provide clean, low‑carbon electricity at scale, helping to replace fossil‑fuel generation and cut emissions. They can be built relatively quickly, increase home‑grown energy supply, and support energy security. When combined with storage and flexible generation, solar helps create a more resilient electricity system as renewable power increases.
