Centrica Power is developing our next generation of power and storage assets, and operates our share in the UK’s existing nuclear fleet, as well as Whitegate power station, our portfolio of batteries, renewable generation and gas peaking plants.

Centrica has also invested into the planned Sizewell C nuclear power station, reinforcing our long-term support for the UK’s low carbon energy future.

Progress in Nuclear

Centrica Power has a 20% interest in the UK’s portfolio of existing nuclear power stations.

In 2025, we extended the lives of existing nuclear power stations and are exploring further investment in nuclear generation, alongside our partner, EDF. Heysham 1 and Hartlepool are now expected to generate electricity until March 2028, one year later than previously expected. And Heysham 2 and Torness have been extended by two years and are now expected to generate until March 2030. The total life extensions announced since December 2024 are projected to add approximately 12TWh to the Company’s electricity generation volumes between 2026 and 2030.

In July 2025, we announced a strategic investment in the UK’s energy infrastructure by acquiring a 15% equity stake in Sizewell C, a nuclear power station under development in East Suffolk. We’ve committed £1.3 billion in construction funding through the Regulated Asset Base (RAB) model, which offers inflation-protected returns and mitigates risks associated with delays and cost overruns.

Centrica will join other stakeholders including HM Government, La Caisse, EDF, and Amber Infrastructure Group. Read more here.

In addition, Centrica and X-energy have agreed to jointly develop Advanced Nuclear Reactors in the UK. The preferred first project would see 12 of X-energy’s Xe-100 reactors deployed at the Hartlepool Nuclear Power station, part owned by Centrica.
