Project Overview
The Pencoed energy site is a 40 MW gas‑fired peaking plant located in Bridgend, Wales, developed by Centrica to provide flexible, on‑demand electricity generation. Designed to respond quickly to fluctuations in supply and demand, the plant supports grid resilience by generating electricity during periods of peak demand or when renewable output is low.
The asset plays an important role in balancing the grid by delivering reliable, dispatchable power when required, helping to maintain electricity system resilience while enabling the continued growth of renewable energy across the UK. Located at Felindre Road, Pencoed, the facility has been developed to provide flexible generation capacity that can respond rapidly to changing market and network requirements.
Pencoed forms part of Centrica's flexible generation portfolio, supporting a secure, affordable and increasingly low-carbon energy system through operational reliability, safety and asset excellence.
