Centrica welcomes UK industrial strategy

Ian Conn, Centrica Group CEO, welcomes proposals

Yesterday the government announced plans for a new industrial strategy for the UK.  Under the proposals, the Government has been clear that it will be focusing on improving productivity and encouraging long-term investment in infrastructure across the country.

The paper talks about increasing affordability of energy for business, in particular linked to the innovation agenda around smart metering, as well as the need for upgrading the UK's energy networks.

Iain Conn, Group Chief Executive said:

“I welcome these proposals which recognise energy as one of the major pillars of the  proposed new industrial strategy. The focus on creating well skilled jobs and promoting innovation and technology to create an economy that works for all is particularly encouraging.

"We employ over 30,000 people and hundreds of apprentices right across the UK and are investing an additional £1.2bn in new technology and innovation to help customers take control of their energy usage. As the energy sector continues to evolve, we look forward to working with the Government to ensure that new energy technology and high skilled jobs benefit people right across the UK.”
