Centrica ranked top UK energy company for carbon management

Centrica has been ranked first in an index of the top performing UK energy companies for carbon management carried out for the FTSE.

Centrica has been ranked first in an index of the top performing UK energy companies for carbon management carried out for the FTSE. The FTSE CDP Carbon Strategy Index Series, which aims to support investors in incorporating climate change risks into their investment strategy, scored Centrica in the top five of all 350 companies rated for managing its exposure to carbon risk, and first among energy sector businesses.

The Index assesses the actions taken by individual companies to manage greenhouse gas emissions. It shows that some companies, such as Centrica, will be well placed to exploit the transition to a low carbon economy, whilst other companies will see their value diminished if they fail to adapt.

In its report, the Index refers to Centrica as having ‘dramatically lower earnings exposure because of their use of low carbon generation capacity'.

Simon Henderson, Centrica's Director of Corporate Responsibility, said: "Our investment programme is focused on producing low carbon energy from our upstream assets, whilst helping our customers reduce their usage through the installation of residential energy efficient technologies. This ranking is recognition that Centrica is well placed to prosper from these investments in a low carbon economy."
