Project Overview
The Redditch Peaking Plant is a 20MW gas-fired facility developed on the site of a former power station in Worcestershire. Designed to operate during periods of peak electricity demand, the plant provides fast-response, flexible generation to support grid stability and reliability. As part of Centrica’s portfolio of peaking assets, it helps balance fluctuations in renewable energy output and ensures a consistent energy supply when demand is highest.
Future of the site
The plant is hydrogen-blend-ready, meaning it has the capability to transition to lower-carbon fuels over time. This supports Centrica’s wider strategy to develop more flexible, low-carbon energy assets and contribute to the UK’s net zero ambitions and a more resilient energy system.
