Project Overview
Morecambe Net Zero (MNZ) is a large-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) project located in the East Irish Sea, off the coast of Barrow-in-Furness. It is being developed by Spirit Energy and is a key part of Centrica’s strategy to repurpose legacy offshore gas fields for the energy transition.
Our Mission is to provide a permanent decarbonisation solution, converting the depleted South and North Morecambe gas fields off the coast of Barrow-in-Furness to provide permanent, safe and secure carbon storage.
The site has produced gas for over 40 years and is now being repurposed as part of the energy transition.
"By repurposing the Morecambe fields for carbon storage, we can put existing infrastructure to work again, helping secure the future of essential British industry while making real progress towards net zero."
Chris O'Shea
Group Chief Executive of Centrica
