Project Overview
The Isle of Grain in Kent is home to Grain LNG, Europe's largest and the world's sixth-largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) import and regasification terminal. A critical part of the UK's energy infrastructure, it provides large-scale LNG import, storage and rapid regasification capacity.
In 2025, Centrica acquired a 50% stake in Grain LNG in partnership with Energy Capital Partners, completing the transaction in November 2025. The terminal is fully operational, with capacity fully contracted until 2029 and significant commitments extending to 2045.
Centrica views the asset as a long‑term strategic investment, supporting UK energy security while offering future options for low‑carbon development.
“The Isle of Grain terminal is a strategic asset that will support the UK’s energy security for many decades to come, keeping energy flowing reliably and affordably to households and businesses across the country as we transition to net zero."
Chris O'Shea
Group Chief Executive of Centrica
