Project Overview
Heysham 2 is part of the UK's nuclear fleet, providing reliable low‑carbon electricity and now expected to operate until 2030.
Heysham 2 is a nuclear power station located in Lancashire, on the north‑west coast of England, adjacent to Heysham 1. It is part of the UK’s advanced gas‑cooled reactor (AGR) fleet and sits within the portfolio of nuclear assets in which Centrica holds a 20% stake alongside EDF.
It provides low‑carbon electricity to around 2 million homes and plays a critical role in maintaining stable baseload generation within the UK’s energy system, supporting grid reliability alongside growing renewable capacity.
Heysham 2 is currently expected to continue generating electricity until March 2030, following a life extension agreed by EDF and supported by Centrica.
