Centrica has been named in The Sunday Times Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers, recognising the strength of its apprenticeship programmes and the role they play in building the skills Britain needs for the future.

The listing is a proud milestone for Centrica and reflects the progress made against its ambition to hire an apprentice every day this decade. Since 2021, almost 2,000 apprentices have joined the business, with 500 new apprenticeship roles planned this year.

For many of those joining, an apprenticeship is the start of a long-term career helping customers and supporting the UK’s transition to a lower-carbon energy system. Apprentices gain hands-on experience, earn while they learn and train in real working environments, supported by Centrica’s award-winning academies and our best-in-class engineers.

“Being named in The Sunday Times Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers is a brilliant recognition of the work happening across Centrica to open up opportunities and build the skills we need for the future."

Amanda Harrison, Group Director Talent and Organisational Capability

That commitment is being backed by significant investment, including the new £35 million Net Zero Training Academy in Lutterworth, Leicestershire, which will help equip engineers with the practical skills needed to install, maintain and support the technologies that will power homes and businesses in the years ahead.

Centrica’s apprenticeship programmes are also helping to broaden the pipeline of talent coming into technical and frontline roles. The company is aiming to reach 48% female representation across its workforce and leadership by 2030, and recent progress shows what is possible, with the latest electrical apprentice intake achieving a 50:50 gender split.

Amanda Harrison, Group Director Talent and Organisational Capability, said: “Being named in The Sunday Times Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers is a brilliant recognition of the work happening across Centrica to open up opportunities and build the skills we need for the future.

“Our apprentices are learning skills that matter – for our customers, for their own careers and for the UK’s energy transition. By investing in people, programmes and state-of-the-art training facilities, we are helping to create rewarding careers and a workforce ready for the opportunities ahead.”
