Centrica will work with Honda to deliver Electric Vehicle (EV) charging services both in the home and across UK dealerships following the recent launch of Honda’s first battery-electric vehicle for the European market, the Honda e.

Engineers from British Gas will install connected chargers in the home of Honda e owners signing up to Honda’s new e:PROGRESS intelligent charging service. The charger works with advanced software developed by smart charging and aggregation specialist, Moixa.

The preferred connected charger for the service is the Honda Power Charger S+ (4G), which connects remotely to e:PROGRESS to schedule access to low-cost electricity. With a simple yet sophisticated design inspired by that of the Honda e, Honda Power Charger has been designed to create more value in the future with further intelligent charging services which interact with the grid.

e:PROGRESS offers a seamless experience in setting up the service, guiding the customer through checking their eligibility online, switching to a dynamic tariff and subscribing to intelligent charging. Ordering and installation of the charger is carried out by British Gas, to ensure the highest-quality service, nationwide, with ongoing aftersales support.

Centrica has also been named the preferred supplier for electric vehicle enablement across Honda’s network of 139 vehicle retailers.

In addition, Centrica is supporting across Honda’s estate to enable workplace charging, including at its European headquarters in Bracknell, Berkshire.

Jørgen Pluym, General Manager of Honda’s Energy Solutions division comments: “Introducing e:PROGRESS to the market for the first time is a significant statement of Honda’s ambition in the provision of energy solutions, and we are committed to offering the very best in service to our customers. Centrica shares many of Honda’s core values for quality and working to the highest standards, making it the ideal installation partner for us to deliver on this commitment.”

"The electrification of transportation will be fundamental to the UK hitting its 2050 net zero targets. By then most, if not all, road transportation will need to be electric. Part of the challenge of this transition is ensuring the charging infrastructure is fit for purpose. We are delighted to be working with Honda to ensure that their customers and their staff can quickly and efficiently join the EV journey.”
