Centrica second in UK for sustainability in Global 100 index

Centrica has been placed second in the UK and 26th overall in Corporate Knights' 2014 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World (Global100)index

Centrica has been placed second in the UK and 26th overall in Corporate Knights’ 2014 Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World (Global100) index released on 22 January. The Global 100 is in its tenth year and has come to be recognised as the gold standard in corporate sustainability analysis. Centrica has featured in the Global 100 in all 10 years of its existence and has improved its position from 32nd in 2013 to 26th in 2014*.

Eight UK companies feature in the list; Sage Group plc at 16, Centrica 26, Croda International plc 28, Electrocomponents plc 63, BG Group plc 71, LSE Group plc 81, BskyB Group 85 and Unilever 93. Companies named in the Global 100 are the top overall sustainability performers in their respective industrial sectors. Inclusion in the index is determined using twelve quantitative sustainability indicators.

In December 2013, Centrica was also placed first in Corporate Knights Top Ten Most Sustainable Utilities in the World. Centrica’s performance was based on 2012 data across a number of environmental, social and governance KPIs. Our sustainability performance relative to participating peers has improved with Corporate Knights highlighting better energy and water use productivity as well as an improvement in greenhouse gas emissions and waste production relative to revenue. No other British or North American businesses featured in this listing.
