Centrica plc is proud to have been recognised for transparency in climate change reporting by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). The company achieved a position in the CDP’s Global 500 Climate Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) for the sixth consecutive year.
The annual index highlights those companies listed on the FTSE Global Equity Index Series (Global 500) that have displayed a strong approach to the disclosure of information regarding climate change, and this year includes the 60 top-scoring companies.
The announcement was made today in the CDP Global 500 Climate Change Report 2013, which tracks how the world’s largest listed companies are acting in response to a changing climate.
The CDP is the world’s only global environmental disclosure system for climate change data and represents 722 investors with $87trillion in assets. The programme is designed to help investors and other decision makers assess companies’ preparedness for changing market demands and emissions regulation.
Jeff Oatham, Centrica’s Head of Corporate Responsibility, said “As an energy company, carbon emissions are prevalent across much of our value chain. While we focus on securing energy supplies for our customers, we are also providing products and services to help them reduce their energy use and carbon emissions. CDP is a useful addition to our carbon measurement and reduction. Being included in the Disclosure Leadership Index helps demonstrate the importance we place on the management of our emissions.”
Paul Simpson, chief executive officer of CDP, commented: “Companies that score highly enough to be included in the Climate Disclosure Leadership Index are responding to the call for greater corporate climate accountability. They have demonstrated leading practice for the measurement of greenhouse gas emissions and energy use and transparency of their climate change strategy.”
