Centrica signs rig contract for Norwegian licences

Centrica plc today announced that its subsidiary, Centrica Energi, together with several other Norwegian operators in a consortium, has signed a rig contract starting in 2009, enabling it to commence drilling on its Norwegian licence interests.

Centrica and the other operators have contracted to use Seadrill Offshore ASA’s semi-submersible drilling rig West Alpha, which will provide rig time over a three year period, with a further option to extend.

The contract provides Centrica with 90 days of rig time in year 1, 82 days in year 2, with an option for further rig days if the option is exercised. The rig is planned to become available to Centrica during the second half of 2009 after completing its current commitments and undergoing necessary modifications.

Centrica Energi has expanded its Norwegian portfolio to six licences, three as operator. The company opened an office in Stavanger in September 2006.
