Roosecote gets a £10.6m boost

A £10.6 million investment programme is to begin at Barrow’s Roosecote Power Station tomorrow.

The work is expected to last up to eight weeks and will include a complete overhaul and updating of the plant’s gas turbine, steam turbine and generators. Around £2.2 million is being invested in new plant and upgrades.

Roosecote production manager Dave Priestley said: “I am delighted this massive investment in Roosecote is taking place as it underlines the faith Centrica has in both the plant and its staff.”

Thirty-two staff work a two-shift system at the 229MW plant, which supplies enough electricity to power 445,000 British Gas homes.

Centrica bought Roosecote, the UK’s first combined cycle gas turbine plant, from the receivers of Lakeland Power in May 2003 for £24 million. It is next to Centrica’s Barrow gas terminals.
