British Gas Trading cuts prices

British Gas Trading, a subsidiary of Centrica plc, has today announced substantial cuts in prices to domestic customers throughout the country. Reductions will take effect from January 12th and those who pay regularly and promptly will see the greatest benefits.

Sixteen million credit customers will see savings of around nine per cent on an average bill. This includes ten million customers who can opt to pay their bill within ten days. A further six million who pay by monthly direct debit on the DirectPay scheme already save six per cent and will typically see a further drop in prices of more than nine per cent.

These price reductions bring the total discount from the standard tariff on an average bill to nearly £50 a year for direct debit customers with an average sized bill and to £33 a year for customers who pay within 10 days.

British Gas Trading Managing Director Mike Alexander said:

"These reductions are designed to benefit as many customers as possible. We are determined to provide value for money services, building on our tremendous track record of sustainable price reductions over recent years."

Prices for one million prepayment customers have been frozen pending the outcome of an industry review headed by Ofgas.
