Operating ethically

In accordance with our Business Principles, we are committed to conducting our business in an ethical and compliant manner. As part of this, we will pay our fair share of tax while respecting the rights of people across our business, communities and supply chain.

PAYING OUR FAIR SHARE OF TAX

Wherever we do business in the world, we take great care to ensure we fully comply with all of our obligations to pay or collect taxes as well as meet local reporting and disclosure requirements. Visit our Responsible Tax page for further details of our Tax Strategy.

UPHOLDING HUMAN RIGHTS

As signatories of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), we are committed to upholding the human rights of all people in relation to our business. This commitment is embodied in our Business Principles, whereby our third principle is ‘Respecting human rights’.

Centrica’s direct impact on human rights is relatively low. This is because most of our operations are based in lower risk countries with legal frameworks to protect human rights, such as the UK, Republic of Ireland and North America.

SECURING A SUSTAINABLE SUPPLY CHAIN

We spend billions of pounds with thousands of suppliers each year, mostly in the UK and North America. The risks associated with different types of suppliers can vary considerably so we use our purchasing power to ensure high social, ethical and environmental standards are upheld in the products and services we buy.

Managing risk in our supply chain

Sustainability clauses are included in supplier contracts to ensure they are contractually obliged to meet the standards set out by our:

Procurement and Corporate Responsibility Policy for Suppliers

ABC Policy for Suppliers

Strategic and higher risk suppliers undergo sustainability assessments with independent supply chain experts, EcoVadis. This process helps us identify and manage risk in our supply chain effectively.

If a supplier is found to be non-compliant with our sustainability clauses, or has been identified as medium or high risk supplier, we work with them to improve performance. We reserve the right to terminate a contract if suppliers fail to implement recommended improvement plans.
