Governance & Assurance

HomeResponsibilityOur ApproachGovernance & Assurance

We have robust processes in place to assure and govern responsible business.

Our Governance

Responsible business activities are governed by the Safety, Health, Environment, Security and Ethics Committee (SHESEC) and the Centrica Executive Committee. These Committee support the Board in fulfilling its responsibilities in reviewing the effectiveness of how we manage risks related to responsible business activities across the business. Our Assurance

In 2017, we engaged PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) on assurance. PwC undertook limited assurance engagement using the International Standard on Assurance Engagements (‘ISAE’) 3000 Revised: ‘Assurance Engagements Other Than Audits or Reviews of Historical Financial Information’ and ISAE 3410: ‘Assurance Engagements on Greenhouse Gas Statements’ over 22 key performance indicators (KPIs) for the Annual Report and Accounts 2017.

Our Reporting

Rather than publish all of our performance in one document at one time, we share our performance throughout the year in tailored communications that meet our stakeholder needs. Want to find out more?

Annual reporting

In April, we publish a strategic update on our responsible business activities within the Annual Report and in two-page updates focused on specific responsible business themes. These documents are supported by a wider online reporting and communications suite which includes a data centre containing over 100 non-financial and financial metrics alongside wider collateral such as case studies and infographics. To inform our reporting, we use external guidelines and frameworks. These include the EU Non-Financial Reporting Directive, the International Integrated Reporting Framework and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). We do not, however, explicitly base our reporting on any individual guidance.

Tailored stakeholder communications

We provide tailored stakeholder communications for those who want more detail on specific issues. For example, in July we complete our annual response on Climate Change and Water Scarcity to CDP, an international NGO reporting to investors representing around a third of world’s invested capital.

Our stories

We share stories, blogs and videos throughout the year. This allows us to keep stakeholders up-to-date in real-time.
