Centrica has secured eleventh place in the Global 100 Index, a leading corporate sustainability analysis which ranks companies on their social, environmental and governance performance. While this result was down slightly from eighth place in 2015, Centrica remains the best placed UK utility company and the second highest ranked UK company.
Centrica is one of only five companies to have featured in the Index each year over its twelve years of existence, demonstrating a strong and enduring commitment to sustainable business growth.
Julia Rebholz, Centrica’s Director of Sustainability and Ignite said: “As a leading energy and services company, we have an important responsibility to embed sustainable business practices that not only satisfy the changing needs of our customers, but benefit our people and protect the environment. That is why we help our customers cut their carbon with market-leading connected home products while securing energy in a safe and responsible way.”
Michael Yow, Corporate Knights’ Lead Analyst said: “To be included in each of the twelve annual Global 100 ranking is no easy feat; only the best companies with a well-balanced sustainability strategy can deliver such a performance. Centrica, with top quartile performance on eight out the twelve indicators is an example of such a company.”
Inclusion in the Index follows strong performance for disclosure and action on climate change by CDP, an international NGO representing around a third of the worlds invested capital. The result also comes after recognition for sustainable performance by Carbon Clear and FTSE4Good.
