Centrica Connected Home today unveiled Hive Camera – the first connected camera from leading smart home brand Hive – designed to give people peace of mind when they are away from home.
Today’s launch comes as Centrica is due to reveal more about its 2017 Hive propositions at an Investor Day this week. Hive Camera will be showcased alongside two other connected devices, Hive Leak Sensor and Hive Active Hub, which will be available later this year. Through this expanded offering, Centrica’s Connected Home division is delivering its ambition of providing an enhanced suite of Hive products and services which make the smart home simple, affordable and accessible for everyone.
The Hive brand develops products based on customer feedback. Since the brand expanded beyond the smart thermostat into connected lighting, sensors and plugs, customers’ top wish is to be able to monitor their home from anywhere at any time via their smartphone, keeping an eye on loved ones and even mischievous pets. Hive Camera is designed to meet these asks and to provide people with the added reassurance a connected home can offer.
Hive Camera links people with their home and family through its 24/7 live HD streaming capabilities, all easily controlled and accessed from its own mobile app. Interactivity is a key feature of the camera: built-in two-way audio allows people to chat with family at home via the camera, gives parents the ability to soothe youngsters upstairs if stuck in the kitchen, and even lets people chat to their pets while at work.
The device contains a sensor enabling a variety of features, including precise motion and audio detection, while the camera itself has a broad angle of view and also offers night vision. It can be set to record all movement, logging time and date, storing information locally to be easily retrieved via the mobile app. Hive Camera’s multiple functions combine to give a clear picture of what’s going on in the home anywhere at any time. And if something doesn’t look quite right, the camera can zoom in remotely, with the user being able to trigger one of three sounds – a police siren, a dog bark or a ringing alarm.
Available for purchase in the UK from the 29th June for £129, Hive Camera will also form part of Hive Home Check – a Hive monthly subscription package.
Nina Bhatia, Managing Director, Centrica Connected Home, commented:
Hive Camera allows people to feel as if they’re at home even when they’re not - by seeing and hearing what’s happening through their smartphone, and participating in what’s going on in the home through audio, too. These are benefits customers have told us they want.
“Customers can expect further innovative Hive products and services over the coming months, as Centrica continues to extend its smart home offering.”
Hive Camera is the first new device to launch as part of the brand’s new campaign, Let’s Get Living. The Hive campaign is designed to showcase how smart home technology brings tangible benefits, allowing people to get more from their daily lives and make the most of special moments.
The Centrica Connected Home innovation pipeline for the rest of 2017 includes Hive Leak Sensor and Hive Active Hub. Hive Leak Sensor monitors water flow in the home, while Hive Active Hub combines an intelligent audio sensor, able to monitor the home for significant sounds, with a more powerful hub in one device. These innovations will enable future services, such as alerting customers to a potential leak or a smoke alarm going off. Both Hive Leak Sensor and Hive Active Hub, along with a further extension to the Hive Camera portfolio, will be available from Autumn onwards.
