Energy insight to drive major savings, says British Gas Business

Distributed energy could unlock £2 – 4bn in future savings for businesses and other large energy users

British Gas Business, part of Centrica, has today launched its new Panoramic Power offer, calling on businesses to use energy insight as a route to unlock billions of pounds worth of savings.

Speaking at the Bloomberg EMEA Future of Energy Summit today, Gab Barbaro, MD of Centrica’s UK Business division, challenged businesses to embrace the opportunities presented by the changing energy landscape to take control of their energy and drive down costs.

He said: “Between them, British businesses are currently spending around £20bn a year on energy. I believe that in future we could help them bring that down by 10 to 20% through distributed energy solutions.

“With Panoramic Power we’re offering energy intensive users real insights to help them bring down their energy usage. More fundamentally though, we can use it to help businesses make decisions about where distributed energy technologies can be of most use to them and to their bottom line.”

The Panoramic Power energy management solution brings transparency and visibility to energy usage with real-time measurement of individual electrical devices and machinery. Combined with cloud-based analytics, the system has been designed to help customers understand and take control of their energy, save money, and drive operational performance.

Panoramic Power was acquired by Centrica last year, building on an exclusive partnership in the US which has been in place since June 2014. It now forms part of its new Distributed Energy & Power business, which has been established to help businesses and other large energy users to take control of their energy by giving them the power to operate, monitor and optimise their energy assets.

Since its establishment in 2009, Panoramic Power has rolled out 35,000 sensors in 30 countries, bringing energy insights to customers across 1000 sites. The technology can be applied across a variety of sectors, from schools and hospitals, through to data centres and manufacturing plants.
