Gus Carroll, Centrica’s Head of Process Safety, has been elected to join the Board of the European Process Safety Centre (EPSC).
The EPSC is an international not-for-profit collaboration of energy, refining, chemicals and pharmaceutical industries who share the common goal of eliminating process safety incidents across Europe; these include major incidents such as fires, explosions and leakages of hazardous substances which are very rare but can have very serious consequences. To mitigate the risk of these incidents occurring, the EPSC focuses on understanding the major hazards, their risks and implementing effective mitigating controls and management systems.
After being an EPSC member for two years, Gus commented: “I am very proud to have been elected to the Board of such a prestigious organisation which provides a unique source of active collaboration, drawing together and sharing best practices in process safety that enable mutual improvement.”
“Here at Centrica, process safety is our number one priority because it spans everything we do - whether it’s installing boilers in customers’ homes or securing energy offshore. I am looking forward to using my position at the EPSC to continually improve our safety performance, while positively influencing the process safety agenda in Europe so that we can keep our customers, our people and our communities safe.”
Piet Knijff, Chairman at EPSC said: “I am very pleased to welcome Gus to the Board of the EPSC. At the EPSC, over 40 companies and organisations are working together to develop, share and improve knowledge and good practices in process safety. The support of companies like Centrica enables EPSC to do this work and to deliver value to our members.”
Gus’ Board position follows Centrica’s Director of Health, Safety, Environment and Security’s invitation to join CBI’s Health and Safety Panel earlier this year. In this role, Simon Wills will provide expertise and guidance on improving health and safety legislation for businesses across Europe.

About the European Process Safety Centre (EPSC)
EPSC was founded in 1992 by the European Federation of Chemical Engineering with the encouragement of the Conseil Européen des Fédérations de l'Industrie Chimique. Its members represent a significant portion of the process safety community in Europe and promotes the sharing and dissemination of best practice, the identification of emerging safety-related issues while advising national and international regulators to enable pragmatic development of legislation for the prevention of process safety incidents.
