This team focuses on what UX is supposed to be about: Gaining evidence around validated user needs and iterating/incrementing a product in the pursuit of experimenting their way to customer value and related business value.

This role is as a UX Designer within a large decentralised UX team (with a centralised Design Team family feel) of around 30 other UX Designers. Working as part of multi-disciplinary product teams, you will be responsible for all aspects of user experience including user needs research, behavioural science & cognitive science based usability testing (in our custom-built onsite usability lab), data analytics and user interface design (including final visual design and finesse – there are no UI Designers here colouring-in wireframes, not a chance!).

The Person

Who you are:

  • A leader who is well versed in the world of Design Ops and can demonstrate success in these relevant areas including design systems, service manuals, efficiencies, driving a design led approach for teams and employing learning methodologies at scale.
  • You know the difference between people and resources and why that difference is important.
  • You have an uncanny ability to craft collaborative spaces and relationships for people to succeed in
  • You have the relevant commercial experience and proven experience of linking user needs with business goals
  • You can demonstrate throughout your portfolio the business impact and user behavioural impact from your work
  • You are an experienced user researcher, have analysed data and validated the problem before creating a solution, then validated the solution
  • You can complete the UI Visual Design (using Sketch/PS etc..) to full quality delivery standards using a base pattern library
  • You are capable of running usability lab sessions using a behavioural science approach to testing your products
  • You are used to working in agile environments and enjoy the benefits of working in this way
  • You not only understand accessibility, but believe an inclusive design approach and treating other humans correctly
  • You are keen to learn, evolve, and continually challenge yourself and the way you do things
  • You want to be part of a fun fast paced team that are constantly improving and continually “getting less wrong” together
  • You will have demonstrable experience in each of these 10 UX Skill areas:

1. Evidence - Discovering what is happening with your product using facts and quantitative data. (Methods: Usage Data Analytics, Behavioural Insights, Session Recording Insights, On-Site Polling/Surveys ROI Value Analysis)

2. Empathy - Understanding the user, their mental model and the reasons behind their actions using qualitative research. (Methods: User Testing, On-site Ethnographic Studies, Remote Ethnographic Studies, Task Analysis, Mental Modelling)

3. Exploration - Map the current and expected experiences then propose alterations in an abstract format. (Methods: Customer/User Experience Mapping, Opportunity Areas Identification, User Journey Mapping, User Needs vs Business Goals Canvas, Product Performance Map, Process Flow Map, Service Blueprinting)

4. Philosophy - Understanding contextually relevant information and organising in a minimal, appropriate and inclusive manner. (Methods: IA Audit, Accessibility, Security, Legal & Compliance Card Sorting, Labelling, Tree Testing, Accessibility Analysis & Testing, Navigation Design, Content Hierarchy & Strategy).

5. Creativity - Converting the abstract concepts & organised information into screen layouts for communication and interaction. (Methods: Sketching, Interaction Design, Micro-Copy, Channel & Devices Context Optimisation).

6. Finesse - The beautification of a research based wireframe design considering both accessibility and visual delight. (Methods: Icon & Graphic Design, Pattern Library Evolution, UI & Visual Design, Micro-Interaction Design, Motion Choreography, Branding).

7. Experimentation - The bridge between hypothesis and reality using a series of test & measure techniques. (Methods: Interactive Prototyping, User Needs Validation, A/B & Multi Variant Testing, MVP & Beta Testing).

8. Psychology - Optimising business return while maintaining a high-quality user experience. (Methods: Persuasive Design Techniques, Quantitative Behavioural Science Analysis, Conversion Rate Optimisation).

9. Collaboration - Sharing knowledge and design rationale based on real research and testing ensuring a unified and user centred team. (Methods: Workshop Facilitation, Presentation & Justification, User Testing Facilitation & Involvement, Development Collaboration, Business Goals & Impact Understanding, Design Studios, Service Manual).

10. Execution - Designing for technical efficiency while working with consideration for technical restraints and capabilities. (Methods: Enough Technical Knowledge to Design for Feasibility, Platforms & Frameworks, Analytics Tagging & Tracking Process, Technology Stack, Digital Release Process).
