The Overview

Accountable for the planning, implementation, control, review and audit of the IS service, to meet intraday and end of day energy trading business requirements

  • Responsible for the IS services to cater to intraday and EOD trading requirements. This includes services providing near real time position management, time critical feeds to national grid, connectivity to power stations and various interfaces to European markets
  • Strong understanding of energy trading lifecycle to help understand IS service related issues in depth
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure requirements and software used in an energy trading business
  • Strong understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements for an energy trading business
  • Actively works with the business (working closely with divisional IS roles to agree services required)
  • Managing internal and external resources in order to plan, estimate and carry out service delivery work to time, budget and quality targets and in accordance with appropriate standards
  • Works closely with other IS Delivery Managers, accountable for ensuring technical documentation is updated when new services are released into production Works closely with the shared services organisation and external vendors

The Role

Accountabilities Planning

  • Ensure IS services supporting the near real time trading environment are up and running 24X7
  • Ensures IS infrastructure is fit for purpose and capable of meeting the near real time and 24X7 energy trading requirements
  • Ensures daily compliance and regulatory requirements including electronic communication recording are well understood and met without fail
  • Takes full responsibility for budgeting, estimating, planning and objective setting for the SDM function Financial Responsibilities
  • Manages the budget for the Service Management function including provision of IS shared services (recharging, reporting and forecasting)
  • Provides accurate and punctual regular and periodic reports as required
  • Ensures team undertakes regular benchmarking of services to demonstrate value for money to business for services recharged
  • Operates the company's risk framework to identify and manage the required outcome of potential risks and opportunities

Operational Responsibilities

  • Defines the service strategy which guides the creation of the service catalogue and associated service level agreements
  • Schedules the work of service delivery staff, taking account of individuals' abilities and the requirements of the work
  • Manages internal and external resources in order to plan, estimate and carry out service delivery work to time, budget and quality targets and in accordance with appropriate standards
  • Supports the design, implementation and running of IS services  Ensures that a catalogue of demonstrably cost effective services is created and maintained and that service level agreements with the Business are negotiated, agreed and documented
  • Manages the portfolio of services provided ensuring they are customer focused and provide demonstrable value for money by undertaking regular benchmark reviews
  • Ensures that service delivery is monitored effectively, both internally and for vendors, and that identified actions to maintain or improve levels of service are implemented so that agreed service level agreements with the business can be met
  • Ensures service improvement plans are initiated and managed to drive continual improvement
  • Ensures that appropriate reports are provided Leadership and People Management (or Teamwork)
  • Champions the promotion of excellent managerial skills as well as excellent technical capabilities
  • Responsible for driving outstanding performance and gaining commitment through developing, coaching, motivating, energising and inspiring team members
  • Ensures team thrives on change and inspires colleagues to embrace and embed new ways of working
  • Ensures team has high levels of engagement with the business, developing effective working relationships at all levels by simplifying complex technical messages and acting as an advocate of IS both externally and internally
  • Ensures team is focused on achieving results using all resources available from initiation through to delivery and feels comfortable to challenge and be challenged
  • Actively removes any boundaries to create an environment that promotes and encourages teamwork across the IS Function
  • Oversees the quality and appropriateness of the work performed to ensure it delivers measurable business benefits
  • Acts as an advocate of IS both externally and internally, and promotes consistent corporate standards and fair attitude in all dealings at all levels Business Development (if applicable)
  • Provides support in playing an active role in business development, championing the IS service delivery function
  • Engages with customers to discover and understand their existing and future requirements and feeds this back into the strategy for IS service delivery Challenges the thinking of influential stakeholders and promotes the value of services available

The Person

  • Understands financial and physical commodity trading and can demonstrate experience in support of software and infrastructure required to support this type of business
  • Understands derivative trading and can demonstrate experience in support of software and infrastructure required to support this type of business
  • Previous experience of supporting compliance related IS requirements for an energy trading business
  • Strong understanding of EUC and back end infrastructure requirements for an energy trading business
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to manage multiple external suppliers
  • Past experience of managing senior energy trading stakeholders
