Centrica’s international Distributed Energy & Power (DE&P) brings together expertise from our UK and US businesses and works to deliver distributed energy solutions to businesses. We provide construction services to deliver projects across the UK for industrial and commercial customers wishing to reduce energy consumption and/or generate energy. As we grow, recruiting the right people is essential and we currently have an opportunity for a number of Shift Engineer Team Leaders. These roles are based at our Combined-Cycle Power Plant in Kings Lynn.

The Role

The key purpose of the role is to lead a shift team in order to deliver H,S&E, Production and Commercial targets in a safe and cost effective manner. You will manage the operational activities of a single fuel CCGT power plant comprising of complex and diverse ranges of equipment operating 24/7/365 in a stop and starting regime. You will lead a team of up to 4 operations technicians and any supporting contractors.

As Team Leader, you will manage the interaction with National Grid and Centrica Electricity Supply Operations in respect of energy requirements and supply, you will be directly responsible for promoting a positive HS&E culture ensuring all necessary controls are in place to minimize risk/eliminate hazards and working closely with other team leaders you will compile shift rosters to ensure effective operation.

The Person

To be successful in this role it is essential you hold a suitable qualification in Operations (NVQ) and/or an engineering based discipline, strong experience of power plant operation demonstrating in-depth knowledge of HS&E policies and procedures and the ability to influence at all levels in order to gain commitment to deliver business objectives. It would also be desirable for you to hold a minimum of a HNC/HND or equivalent in an engineering discipline, a suitable qualification in H&S Management (NEBOSH Certificate) and both CCGT and conventional fossil-fuelled plant experience.

Please note that the Plant is currently part way through a major replant and overhaul activity and so the first 12 months of this role will require skills commensurate with assisting the return to service and commissioning of the equipment. Experience in plant return to service will be key and the duties during this period will include close working with the contract partners to deliver safety from the system plus witnessing, checking and testing of sub systems prior to acceptance back to the operational team’s control. Initially you will operate over a standard working week of 5 days at 37.5 hr week and the transition to shift working will occur later in 2018, this will include weekends and unsociable hours.

A period of training will also be provided but will require travel to Germany and possibly other European countries / UK in early 2018 and may take up to 4 weeks.
