Providing leadership and guidance to the technical safety team supporting the North Sea and Morecambe assets you will promote a proactive and generative HSE culture through regular site visits and visible HSE leadership.

As the Senior Technical Safety Advisor you will provide technical safety support and challenge to the capital projects team, ensuring compliance with legislation, standards and management of project facilities design and decommissioning risks to ALARP (as low as reasonably practicable).

The Role

As a safety leader you will act as an ambassador for our life saving and house rules and HSE expectations.

Preparation of technical safety content of project HSE plans and ensuring delivery against the plans aligning with safety and environmental advisors is at the core of this role, you will also liaise with the regulator where necessary on aspects of process safety.

You will specify the scopes and ensure quality of technical safety studies performed by third parties and conduct project technical safety studies as required including: FERAs (fire and explosion risk analysis), EERAs (evaluation, escape and rescue analysis), QRAs (quantitative risk assessments), SIL (safety integrity level) assessments and dropped object studies for example. You will participate in and lead project HIRAs (Hazard Identification and Risk Analysis)/HAZOPS/HAZIDS or other sessions as required and prepare or revise design notifications, operations safety cases and dismantling safety cases.

In this key role you will assist in implementing aspects of HSEQ Improvement plans, assist the wider HSE & technical function on process safety matters and deputise for the role of UK-Netherlands safety engineering technical authority as required.

You will lead or support process safety incident investigations and ensure a consistent, best practice approach to hazard identification, risk assessment and risk management across the business; and assist with establishing, maintaining, promoting and a suite of technical specifications and Company practices to reflect good safety engineering practice.

As an experienced safety practitioner you will assist with reviewing, assessing and approving temporary engineering modifications and other engineering changes as necessary to ensure compliance with standards, legislation and operation within the requirements of the Safety Case and COMAH Report.

The Person

You will be degree or postgraduate qualified in a relevant technical subject, have experience in technical / process safety in oil & gas or petrochemical industry and be able to demonstrate good knowledge of risk management, and compliance requirements. To have a passion for HSE and have a track record in developing and executing pragmatic solutions and influencing others to move towards consensus within a cadre of qualified HSE and technical (e.g. Well Engineering, Engineering and operational) professionals is key to the role.

An ISO Lead Auditor or equivalent qualification is required as are up to date offshore survival and medical certificates.
