Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and relationship management skills. Able to inspire and lead others without line management authority
  • Ability to operate with senior leaders and operational managers 
  • Technically competent in current Environmental best practice
  • Highly skilled in the analysis of technically demanding and detailed information and ability to quickly identify the underlying issues and trends
  • Strong capacity to be future focused in identifying risks and opportunities and their implications
  • Strong communication skills to be able to put across complex concepts and data in a way that is readily understood and actionable, using a variety of media
  • Skillful in engaging others with technical issues and maintaining their interest and enthusiasm
  • Skillful in distilling knowledge and building skills in others
  • The capacity to be pragmatic and practical in the way that technical issues are addressed
  • Extensive knowledge of HSES systems, practices and legislation
  • Ability to evaluate and interpret legislative requirements and advise/influence accordingly
  • 5-10 years minimum relevant experience
  • A background in the Energy and Utilities industry is desirable
  • Experience of developing/implementing ISO14001 Environmental Standard and integration within HSES management systems
  • Working and managing in a matrix organization
  • Working with external stakeholders including regulatory bodies to achieve the required outcomes for the business

Responsibilities

  • To lead on the development and implementation of the Environmental plan for the business including the setting of objectives and targets
  • To provide visible engagement with operational teams to ensure they have suitable awareness, information, advice and support to meet the requirements of the businesses Environmental plan and obligations  
  • Develop and where required, deliver environmental briefings
  • To deliver continuous improvement of the environmental policies and procedures in alignment with the Group and Business Unit HSES Management System Framework
  • To implement and maintain ISO 14001 certification across North America
  • To provide functional leadership support to the Business Unit to optimize environmental activities
  • To lead with the design and implementation of carbon reduction plans and improvement projects
  • To ensure appropriate input to the lifecycle of any relevant project to confirm environmental expectations are defined and implemented
  • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure environmental performance is adequately measured and objectives are met
  • Implement, coordinate a range of activities and initiatives which are designed to have a positive impact on the environment
  • To design strategies to deliver the Group Environmental expectations
  • To report and track trends on environmental performance in alignment with Group HSES
  • Support the HSES assurance program to ensure compliance through provision of subject matter expertise in audit planning and execution
  • To work with internal and external stakeholders, including supply partners, and promote continuous improvement to assist with the achievement of our environmental expectations and objectives
