Job Description

The Commercial Contracts Analyst is a member of the North American Distributed Energy (NADE) Commercial team, whose central capability is to allow DE&P to offer bespoke distributed energy solutions to large energy users. Reporting directly to the Manager of Commercial Structuring, this role is expected to work collaboratively across the Centrica organization to assist in the development of our commercial contracting capabilities to support a wide range of products and solutions we offer to our customers.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of North American natural gas, power, and distributed energy markets and common commercial terms strongly preferred
  • Sound understanding of both commodity and non-commodity based energy products strongly preferred
  • Excellent  verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to develop and explain complex deals in simple term
  • Strong understanding of commercial contracts and risk/benefits allocation required; familiarity with financed energy-related infrastructure projects including energy performance contracts,  power purchase agreements, and other distributed energy deal structures preferred
  • Strong contracting and business analysis skills
  • Able to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines; work effectively with cross-functional teams, logically solve problems, and make quick decisions
  • Able to identify financial and technical limitations and interpret their effect on client-facing deal structures
  • Strong commercial analytical skills; logical, critical, and creative thinker; ability to distil numerical complexity into sound commercial plans and processes. Convey options and decisions to non-finance/non-commercial partners
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented individual with consistently positive outlook
  • Five or more years industry related experience required
  • Industry experience – including but not limited to – energy, renewable, technology, insurance, banking, and consultancy, would be desirable
  • Degree in Law or Business strongly preferred  

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of standard commercial terms/contracts across all NADE product lines, including complex distributed energy solutions projects and bespoke/customized client-facing agreements;
  • Managing and negotiating amendments to standard contracts and review non-standard terms for compliance with internal commercial guidelines;
  • Working with members of the NADE teams to support commercial development opportunities;
  • Facilitating communication between sales/delivery/operations/other internal teams to ensure comprehensive and consistent coverage of stakeholder obligations in relation to client agreements and to ensure that the final commercial offering properly accommodates all assumptions, exclusions, and technical capabilities;
  • Working with internal stakeholders to obtain all associated internal approvals prior to presenting proposals to clients or receiving final contract execution;
  • Assisting in interpreting grants, incentives, and rebates contracts and their effects on projects/parties outside of the direct financial implications; assisting in managing incentive application processes and ensuring timely filing and ongoing compliance with program requirements;
  • Creating heads of terms for incorporating new technologies that demonstrate our value proposition to our customers, qualifying risks and benefits associated with changes to energy consumption and peak demand management;
  • Being a valuable resource to the whole organization for contracting expertise to assist in review and optimization support for a wide range of existing agreements;
  • Recording and reporting successes and failures internally to assist in developing and improving processes and client-facing contracting capabilities;
  • Complying with and continuously improving internal document/version control standards and contract management capabilities;
