The role will focus on providing support to the Finance Partner (and associated Leadership teams) to create value by improving the quality of decisions.  This will ensure that a chosen Business strategy delivers the highest financial benefit at an acceptable level of risk.

The role will work closely with the function teams, facilitating interaction and knowledge transfer where required between the functions and Finance Operations.

The role will also contribute to developing and driving the financial and commercial agenda across Group Functions

 

General

  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders in the business
  • Understand business strategy and its translation into financial impacts, and support its effective communication across Finance
  • Have the business and finance knowledge to efficiently facilitate interchange and relationships between the business and Finance Operations
    • Develop deep understanding of key drivers of revenue and costs, cashflow, and risks and opportunities and be conversant with the translation of commercial issues into financial impacts
  • Support the Finance Partner (and associated Leadership teams) by providing robust, thoughtful and highly analytical finance and strategic support to the businesses to drive improvements in financial performance
  • Act as part of the first line of defence in the identification and management of risks
  • Support global functions; Group Marketing, Group Property, Finance, HSE and the newly established Centrica Innovations business

Plan & Monitor the Business

  • Regularly review performance against Group Annual Plan & latest forecast, working with the function and with FP&A to analyse financial and operational (value driver) variances and recommend corrective action
  • Work with Finance Operations and MI to improve performance reporting and forecasting 

Provide Decision Support

  • Draw on FP&A forecasts and reports, FC actual and judgements, external data and experience to articulate the relationship between drivers, interventions and  strategy on the one hand and on financial and operational metrics on the other
  • Action against standard analysis, insight and challenge from FP&A to support and influence decisions, empowering the business to self-serve appropriate data to inform decisions independently
  • Carry out non-standard / bespoke analysis to support functional decision making
  • Identify performance improvement interventions and design means of implementing associated changes. Facilitate relevant parts of the business to implement changes
  • Support the Finance Partner (and associated Leadership teams) in reviewing investments and develop means of articulating value of investment, facilitating and leading relevant parts of the business to deliver business cases

 

 

Requirements

  • Previous commercial and analytical finance experience with a track record of driving performance, insight and growing business value
  • Experience of working in a scale organisation influencing business leaders and contributing to development and delivery of business strategy
  • Track record of building economic and financial models; presenting ideas to business leaders; creating robust forecasting and budgeting as well as underpinning materials prepared with sound financial accounting and planning
  • Investment acumen, ability to produce and review business cases, and financial modules
  • Make effective judgments on cash flow and balance sheet forecasts
  • Ability to pro-actively develop positive and highly effective working relationships, influencing management on delivery and relevant strategy
  • Strategic thinking – able to step away from the detail and combine data with external trends and market data to see the bigger picture
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills to provide check and challenge to the business in their decision making in an effective and constructive manner
  • A demonstrated ability in commercial analysis and evaluation, with strong commercial acumen to support delivery of business goals
  • Strong ability to summarise complex matters and communicate effectively to influence a range of audiences
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment and engage resource across the business and finance to deliver work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to identify, assess and analyse organisation wide operational risks and controls

Education:

Qualified Accountant

Bacehlors Degree
