small, medium and large-size businesses, public institutions, and government.
Requirements

Required Competencies:

  • Experience with trading in any organized energy market

  • Ability to analyze and execute financial transactions in Canadian power Markets
  • Ability to analyze physical power flows in Alberta and Ontario power Markets

Desired Competencies: Masters in a quantitative discipline such as Finance, Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science combined with at least 5-10 years of progressive industry experience in energy markets.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to be an expert in the physical and financial power markets, with a focus on the Alberta and Ontario markets. This is a multi-level position with level placement dependent upon the skills and experience of the candidate

Responsibilities:

  • Develop short and long term analysis and strategies that contemplate market supply and demand, and support the Canadian Wholesale Power business and development objectives
  • Direct responsibility for Canadian Wholesale P&L target
  • Regularly interact with VP of North America Power and Director of Power to discuss strategies, business implications, and development initiatives within the Power business
  • Work with Canadian C & I sales team to create a differentiated portfolio of products to facilitate customer business
  • Understand and operate within Direct Energy’s policies and procedures, risk management and corporate guidelines
  • Monitor weather, load, price behavior, transmission constraints/outages, and generation outages to identify risks to the company position and take appropriate actions to mitigate portfolio risk
  • Perform quantitative analysis including transmission and regulatory analysis to identify risks and opportunities for power market
  • Work with Origination team to create a diversified portfolio of products and hedging instruments to facilitate customer flow business
  • Strategically measure and evaluate Canadian and WECC markets for growth opportunities
