Job Description

 To drive the profitable growth of the Distributed Energy business, through business acquisition, JV structuring, technology acquisition and partner creation. Also support rationalisation of the existing business through disposal of non-core assets


  • At a minimum a high quality numerical bachelors degree 
  • Further education in finance, either through professional finance qualifications or relevant Masters degree (e.g. MBA) 
  • A record of success within a business development/M&A function. Either within a financial institution (e.g. Investment bank, Private Equity) or a large corporate entity 
  • Experience of managing a senior professional team 
  • Experience of working in relevant industries to DE&P 
  • International experience preferable


  • Setting the Business Development agenda for DE&P and leading a team of 4-5 BD professionals 
  • Market Scanning and Opportunity identification: Developing a comprehensive understanding of potential BD opportunities within the DE&P markets, including M&A transactions, JV developments and potential partnerships 
  • Deal Negotiation and Delivery: Lead on deal structuring, negotiation and execution of deals. Ensuring deals comply with Centrica policies and best practice 
  • Partnerships: Support the Technology and Product Development team develop robust and commercially advantageous partnerships
  • Deal Origination: Building strong industry network and originating high class investment opportunities for DE&P
  • Deal structuring: Proven ability to take the lead in developing and implementing significant business deals which significantly add value to the Company. Extensive knowledge and experience of commercial, financial and risk mitigation tools and techniques. Ability to compare the alternative complex commercial structures and to select appropriate solutions to deliver successful results. Extensive experience of obtaining prior authority for a range of options and outcomes which cover political, economic and partner issues 
  • Negotiation delivery: Proven ability to lead multi-disciplined negotiating teams to achieve complex, multi faceted deals delivering significant benefits and material increases in shareholder value. Has had extensive experience of undertaking contractual negotiations in more than one sector 
  • Deal execution: Track record of executing complex M&A transactions 
  • Communication: Excellent communication skill including ability to articulate a vision/purpose for the future and working with partners to co-create a shared agenda 
  • Market knowledge: Has broad knowledge of power and distributed, emerging issues, trends and technologies commercial market both related and unrelated to the energy sector such that 
  • Financial skills – detailed understanding of accounting and valuation techniques with track record of overseeing comprehensive business valuation models
