Overview

UK Business is currently looking to appoint a Head of Consumption. The role is designed to control and govern the policy, process and primary operational activity to ensure accurate volumetric and financial reconciliation of consumption of energy with the industry and customer accounts. Given the low margin nature of energy in the UK business market the accurate reconciliation of consumption to billing is critical to sector profitability, this role co-ordinates significant support service and manages a small data management team.

The Role

Within this role you will co-ordinate and control the accounting of consumption with the industry, against billed volumes and rates for all energy consumed within UK Business. You must provide a support service to SME Energy in addition to I&C such that the total consumption issues faced by UK Business are addressed. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Indentify drivers of errors and overcharges and formulate corrective action plans to ensure accurate timely reconciliation
  • Establish root cause of consumption issues and drive projects and plans, including system changes to correct
  • Co-ordinate shared service resources working on metering, settlements, imbalance, and procurement to ensure maximisation of UK Business profitability both short and long term
  • Initiate change throughout UK Business to reduce exposure to consumption risk
  • Devise develop and publish performance indicators enabling the business to better comprehend and address consumption issues
  • Interface to customers with consumption issues coordinating resources to deliver successful outcomes and protect relationships
  • Lead data analytics team providing consumption reports to I&C customers, including the pricing, sale and production of reports

Data:

  • Manage the collection storage and ability to access half hourly and other consumption data, co-ordinating third parties and shared services
  • Develop data products for sale to customers providing access to raw data and analysed data services for a fee
  • Understand the energy data market and product / proposition offerings of competitors
  • Lead the data Analytics team, developing the activity as a value generating business stream
  • Support data for reporting for NHH, HH, and Flex customers
  • Support data for bespoke reporting arrangements agreed with Major Accounts / data customers
  • Reconcile data with customers, industry and other reference sources, seek to ensure independent sources of validation
  • Minimise errors and ensure rapid resolution of any query or error minimising disruption to I&C business processes
  • Develop, design and specify system enhancements to improve process and system integrity

Commercial:

  • Protect UK Business revenue flows through accurate consumption management
  • Set clear criteria for rates of return expected from investment in resources to address, correct or validate consumption
  • Establish opportunities to market data to I&C customers and explore the potential of providing consumption data reporting for non-BG customers
  • Understand and ensure the wider business shares understanding of the financial impact of consumption, consumption errors and the cost of prevention or correcting errors
  • Ensure customer and industry data inaccuracies are managed effectively and UK Business is able to recover the cost of correcting errors caused by other parties

The Person

We are looking for someone who has experience of managing complex computerised systems and high volumes of data in a time critical environment. You must have experience of managing business customer relationships with organisations with multiple points of contact (functions) and a proven track record of effectively managing through non-reporting teams

Technical competencies:

  • Understanding of UK energy markets and energy related data elements
  • Understanding of B2B service delivery and operation to SLA and contractual provisions
  • Understanding of the role of brokers / validators within the UK energy market
  • Deep understanding of technical aspects of energy, especially the Half Hourly and Flex markets to be competent to interface with Customers and brokers
  • Good understanding of regulatory requirements that govern our business

The Company

Salary Circa; £79,000 - £98,000 + Bonus & excellent cooperate benefits
