British Gas is the largest energy supplier in the UK so our decisions matter. Customers are always foremost in our thoughts. Evaluating customer behaviour in highly competitive retail markets, predicting how much energy they will need, analysis of current and future markets and making major investment and hedging decisions to secure future supplies of gas and electricity requires sophisticated analysis.
As a graduate analyst, your work will be fundamental to ensuring that our commercial strategy is right, that we deliver improvements in critical areas, such as pricing, and that we’re profitable. You’ll be supported by industry-leading analytics and insight tools, and work together with dynamic colleagues to identify the biggest opportunities or risks that we might face. We are looking for highly numerate, business-focused and driven individuals who appreciate that energy businesses are driven by many factors, and that these are changing every minute.
The Analyst Graduate Programme could see you working within a diverse array of teams and functions across the British Gas business. The ability to work with models, make and test hypotheses and turn data into useful information constitute critical skills throughout the business. Equally important is a very strong interest in the practical application of analytical techniques and the ability to communicate and work effectively with your colleagues.
Relationship management is vital as you’ll be communicating with a variety of audiences including technical experts, senior management, as well as external parties. You will be expected to utilise your initiative and entrepreneurship to identify opportunities for innovation and growth as part of an ever-evolving function

A personal coach and a senior mentor will support and stretch you in equal measure. Plus, we’ll supply all of the sophisticated analysis tools you need to progress – including SAS (database), Emblem (linear modelling) and @Risk (stochastic modelling) – but it will be up to you to make the most of them.
How does the 2 Year programme work?
The scheme runs for 2 years with three 8 month placements. Your first placement will be a steep learning curve giving you a solid foundational knowledge of how the energy markets and our businesses operate and will provide exposure to more experienced analysts to learn how to go about approaching various challenges and business problems
Your second and third placements will stretch and challenge you to work with diverse data sets utilise different analytical skills, so adapting to change is fundamental to success. You’ll need to develop a transferable skill set as you’ll be expected to deliver real results from the outset although you won’t be expected to do all this alone. Formal behavioural and technical training and a structured performance management process support your on-the-job learning, as well as access to a Graduate Talent Manager and the Analyst Talent board.

What we look for
In order to apply for this stream you must already have, or be expecting to achieve a minimum 2:1 undergraduate or post graduate degree, in a numerate discipline, such as maths, physics, statistics, applied economics, chemistry, or engineering.
