The Overview

The Supply Chain Risk Specialist is an important role in driving supply chain risk compliance and good practice within the Procurement and Supply Chain community. The role works closely within the Procurement teams but also ensures that all reporting requirements for the Group are accurately managed

The Role

  • Regular analysis and updates on the risk profile of the supplier portfolio
  • Process review and improvement
  • Knowledge sharing/best practice
  • Works with the all procurement teams across the group to identify and mitigate risks in their supply chains
  • Improves knowledge through education to reduce supply chain risk exposure
  • Works with BU’s and business continuity to ensure appropriate mitigating actions for loss of suppliers are in place


  • Understand potential supply chain impacts beyond Centrica’s direct supplier relationships
  • Enable systems and approaches which could help to mitigate major risk areas
  • Develop reporting of risk data as required to PLT, CFO, CRC and CEC
  • Be a key contact for the procurement teams to provide commercial expertise and best practice on risk management for all aspects of the supply chain
  • Implement the risk based approach for Centrica’s moves to a Low Cost Country Sourcing activity to ensure the company is suitably protected from reputational risk, analysing both country and sector risk
  • Embed a control framework across Global Procurement to verify that the requirements of the Supply Chain Risk Standard are adhered to
  • Network in the external market to understand how leading peer organisations approach supply chain risk and how best practice could be implemented across Centrica
  • Building relationships with the Procurement, CR and BCP teams across the group globally to ensure understanding of the key challenges and identify solutions to meet these needs
  • Working with senior stakeholders and procurement teams to deliver the supply chain risk strategy
  • Be an advocate for good risk management across Procurement, delivering training and support where required

  • Understand different risks, cultures and deployments of risk in the different markets and industries in which we operate
  • Able to build productive relationships with other organisations to share knowledge and good practice
  • Pro-active, flexible, resilient, motivated and results oriented
  • Excellent influencing, communication and relationship management skills
  • Ambitious with a desire to succeed.
  • Proven analytical skills including ability to gather, interpret complex data, summarise and communicate simply and effectively
  • A pragmatist – be able to strike the balance between protection of the business and the effective delivery of the department


  • Degree educated or appropriate relevant in work experience

Work Experience

  • Detailed understanding of risks and appropriate mitigating controls balanced against a commercial awareness
  • Confidence and credibility with good communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A good grasp of existing versus emerging risks on a global and local basis and ability to suggest and implement mitigating actions to address Influencing, persuading and negotiating skills. Ability to present ideas/concepts and take a consultative approach with stakeholders and peers
  • Team player with an ability to manage relationships
