As part of the Direct Energy North America Home Commercial team, Senior Analyst delivers gross margin forecast and associated P&L production / analysis for the Direct’s residential energy business. Covering all US regions and both power and gas, this function leads gross margin forecast, provides daily P&L reporting and P&L drivers, drives for system data integrity and controls, performs prior period adjustment explanation and root cause analysis, as well as associated gross margin analytics.

This team has close and efficient interaction with the Front Office, Accounting, Middle Office, Operations and IT as well as other parts of Finance including Financial Control on a daily basis to ensure the timely and accurate gross margin view with minimal margin erosion.


Skills & Qualifications:


  • Understand risks associated energy load serving business
  • Risk and P&L experience; knowledge of P&L explains
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in Excel, SQL (VBA is a plus)
  • Excellent communication skills, organized and able to meet tight deadlines
  • Team player, ready to engage necessary contacts throughout the company to complete tasks
  • Thrives in dynamic, fast paced work environment
  • Passion for creative problem solving and pride of ownership
  • Strict attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to process information from a variety of sources, understand key insights, develop well thought out commercial recommendations and communicate effectively
  • Finance, Economics, Engineering undergraduate degree




The Senior Analyst Margin Analysis will be accountable for the following activities:


  • Cash and forward P&L performance, including P&L explain
  • Accountable for accuracy of inputs and process that drive P&L reporting
  • Forecasting and analyzing movements in gross margin, including the explanation of variances to Plan in both our forward and actualized gross margin
  • Drive efficiency (speed of delivery) within the team
  • Ensuring all products are structured accurately for risk management purposes
  • Manage and advise on the development new products or processes
  • Ensuring all data to support hedging and pricing decisions is available, complete and accurate
  • Assessing the performance of book and understand underlying drivers
  • Act as an escalation point for team regarding complex questions, obstacles and decisions
