The Data Architect will play a critical role in shaping the management, integration, utilization and governance of Direct Energy’s IT data assets.  This role will be highly visible to not only the IT Leadership team but key business stakeholders and sponsors.  The Data Architect will report to the Enterprise Architecture team and will work closely with other leaders/managers across the enterprise to ensure all data management, integration, utilization and governance activities are aligned to the overall guiding principles and target state architecture.  This role will also be responsible for interfacing with key business function leaders and the Enterprise PMO to ensure that requirements driven by our commercial strategy are accounted for in our overall planning, design and architecture.




Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field
  • 8+ years of experience in system, infrastructure and data architecture principles, methods, techniques and technologies
  • 5+ years of experience working as a trusted partner to business function leads and stakeholders
  • Proven background in designing and implementing architectural solutions to solve strategic and tactical business needs
  • Demonstrated ability to define and execute deliverables on time and within budget
  • Solid technical understanding of TOGAF, Domain Driven Design, Design Patterns and experience in their practical application
  • Deep technical understanding through relevant experience of enterprise-wide data management, governance and architecture principles and techniques for master data, transaction data and derived/analytic data.
  • Ability to articulate end-to-end data management for operational and analytic data from the business process supported all the way through to the infrastructure
  • Experience leveraging enterprise architecture tool sets (e.g. Sparx, Rational, etc.)
  • Strong aptitude to learn business processes/products and the role of data within the business domain
  • Working knowledge of SDLCs (RUP, Waterfall, and Agile)
  • Demonstrated ability to balance architectural theory with practical solutions
  • Ability to adapt quickly in a rapidly changing dynamic environment
  • Ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience
  • Prior experience in the energy sector or with Microsoft Dynamics would be a plus
  • Strong experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Highly motivated, self-directed, results oriented problem solver
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong analytical/technical aptitude
  • Up to 10% travel required



  • Work with the IT Strategy & Architecture team to develop the 5-year IT roadmap
  • Work with the Enterprise Data Architecture team to establish enterprise-wide standards for data management and governance
  • Leverage best practices, experience, and knowledge to generate reference architectures, governance, and discipline necessary to realize the IT strategy
  • Establish relationships with key business functional stakeholders to build trust and maintain alignment of the technology strategy with commercial and operational functions
  • Understand the company’s operating model to create and maintain core diagrams that reflect areas of diversity and unity across the lines of business showing the data asset management capabilities that will meet those needs
  • Collaborate closely with IT Strategy & Architecture team to influence projects/initiatives and drive decisions related to data architecture, system interoperability, and application rationalization goals
  • Act as a bridge between enterprise architecture, business domains and projects/initiatives to drive data related designs and decisions within and across lines of business
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing data architecture technologies and tools, recommending new solutions and developing roadmaps for implementation/migration
  • Identify opportunities to leverage data as a strategic asset
  • Implement data management practices and policies within key projects across lines of business
  • Design and document data models, diagrams, flows and dictionaries for others to code within key projects across lines of business
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to line of business architects and developers as well as other enterprise architects
  • Contribute to the development of the enterprise data architect role and function within Direct Energy
