What does it involve?
Do you have an inquisitive nature? Are you the sort of person who can grasp supply markets and the economic drivers of our suppliers, and then turn this knowledge and a strong understanding of our business needs into a sourcing strategy?
Our Procurement team is responsible for purchasing everything we need to operate successfully. It’s a team with significant responsibility: we paid £4.5bn to suppliers for goods and services in 2015. That’s why we work closely with our internal colleagues to ensure that we understand their needs and we extensively research supply markets, devising procurement and supply chain strategies to ensure we get the maximum value for our money.
We need people across a number of academic disciplines who have good influencing and stakeholder skills and believe they can turn their commercial acumen into value. Our two-year Procurement and Supply Chain Graduate Programme will give you comprehensive exposure to a variety of our operations across our family of businesses and a great overview of how the whole organisation fits together.
Comprising three, eight-month placements which are designed to encompass the range of sourcing and supply chain activities we have across the organisation. We’ll provide you with extensive behavioural and skills training, plus regular opportunities to share learning with each other. Working in procurement means that you’ll be in contact with senior individuals up to board level – both within Centrica and externally at our suppliers – so we’ll make sure you have the skills to deliver your messages with impact and design negotiation strategies to deal effectively with our third parties.
Procurement and Supply Chain graduates are expected to be mobile during their two years of training and may be required to work in any of our UK locations.
Procurement is one of the most diverse roles out there. From supporting the design of multi-million pound projects, to negotiating and managing global purchasing agreements, procurement cuts across all departments. As a graduate you’ll have the opportunity to challenge the way things are done and lead change projects to improve and strengthen our business- Bijan Golchin, Procurement and Supply Chain Graduate
