What to expect
At Centrica, we live by the adage, ‘we do it safely, or we don’t do it at all’. We supply gas and electricity to millions of customers every day, and what we do is inherently hazardous. We’re here to protect the health and safety of our employees, 28 million customers and the wider public. We also believe that all work-related injuries and major accidents can be prevented. In addition we’re committed to reducing the environmental impacts of our activities through innovation, technology and cultural change.
It’s a challenge that requires a committed, thriving community of professionals. That’s why we’re looking for highly motivated graduates with a degree in engineering, science or related disciplines, who are interested in joining us and developing a career in HSES. There’s a huge range of career options available; from leading the drive to a low carbon economy, reducing operational safety risks and maintaining the security of our people, assets and information. As a graduate, your contribution will be vital.
Our programme gives you field-level, practical skills, as well as a broad appreciation of our strategic direction on HSES. It starts with sixteen weeks of intense induction where you’ll spend time at all of our businesses, and receive all the training you need to ensure you can undertake your work safely, whether it’s in a customer’s home or at an offshore gas platform. After this, you’ll start the first of three eight-month long placements at one of our businesses.
You’ll be expected to add value to the business from day one within a wider team, where you’ll receive all the support and advice you’ll need. You’ll also have a coach, who will be a previous graduate who knows all the ropes, plus a personal mentor, who will be a senior manager, and they’ll be available for support and advice throughout your entire graduate career.
When I left university I never thought that within 2 years I’d have been onto an offshore gas platform, worked at a power station or led a major cross-business unit project but the scheme gives you real responsibility, the opportunity to explore all parts of Centrica and work with some incredible people- Peter Goonajee, HSES Graduate
