Duration: 2 years (3 x 8-month placements)

Locations:  UK-wide with potential international opportunity

Starting salary: £27,000 plus £3,000 starting bonus

Minimum requirements: 2:1 degree (2:2 if combined with Master’s)

What does it involve?

Without exceptionally talented analysts, our business would not be able to thrive. The demands of evolving energy, services, insurance and connected homes markets are huge and often complex. To satisfy the changing needs of our customers, and to make sure our strategy remains adaptive and successful, we need to engage in a wide range of sophisticated analytical activity.

As a graduate analyst, you could potentially be involved in any aspect of this work. From evaluating customer behaviour in highly competitive retail markets to predicting how much energy they will need in the future. From exploring how energy can be generated and stored to making major investment and hedging decisions to secure future supplies of gas and electricity. Working across a wide range of functions and teams, and supported by industry-leading analytics and insight tools, you’ll help identify the biggest risks and opportunities facing our business.

Placement 1

You’ll start by gaining a solid foundational knowledge of how our businesses operate. During this time, you will be able to learn from more experienced analysts how to approach a variety of challenges and business problems.

Placements 2 and 3

Your next two placements are designed to stretch and challenge you, as you work with diverse data sets and use a variety of analytical skills. Your on-the-job learning will be enhanced by formal behavioural and technical training and you will gain support from a structured performance management process as well as access to a graduate talent manager and the analyst talent board. As your career aspirations become clearer, we’ll help you to identify possible permanent roles and there may also be opportunities for you to gain further professional qualifications in areas such as management (MBA), statistics (CStat) or actuarial (FIA).

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

We’re looking for people who are highly numerate and have a very strong interest in the practical application of analytical techniques. This is essential, as you will be developing the critical skills needed to work with models, make and test hypotheses and turn data into decisions.

Another key quality we look for is relationship-management skills. You’ll need to be able to communicate and work effectively with a wide range of people, including colleagues, technical experts, business leaders and external parties.

It’s also important that you are business-focused. We need people who recognise that our businesses are driven by many changing factors, and who can use their entrepreneurial instinct to identify opportunities for innovation and growth.
