During your placement you'll work on real projects with real responsibility, while benefiting from a wide support network of colleagues, a line manager and the Central Graduates team. Our aim is to help you build your strengths, gain skills that can be transferred to any workplace and stand out from the crowd. Our summer placements will appeal to self-motivated, penultimate-year students with a proactive, can-do attitude and a genuine desire to learn about our business and industry.
Your placement will be in one of the following areas:
The Analyst Summer Placement Programme will see you undertaking a project within a diverse array of teams and functions across the Centrica Group to gain a detailed insight into a career as an analyst. We are looking for highly numerate and driven individuals who appreciate that energy businesses are driven by many factors. For more information, please visit the individual graduate programme pages.
On the Customer Operations Programme, you will work within our British Gas business. Your project will give you the opportunity to work with a variety of different people, across a wide range of operations in our frontline business to develop your skills. For more information, please visit the individual graduate programme pages.
Our UK-wide Engineering placements offer electrical, mechanical, chemical and C&I student engineers a great opportunity to experience gas processing, electricity generation and gas storage. You'll work alongside talented engineering professionals and apply your technical knowledge at one of our energy operations across the UK. A full driving licence (upon starting the programme) is required. For more information, please visit the individual graduate programme pages.
The Engineering programme is open for applications until 26/12/2013.
The Finance stream of our Summer Placement Programme is a chance to see if a career in finance might be for you. You'll work with finance professionals who'll show you the key role finance plays in the energy industry and how finance supports our whole organisation. All degree disciplines are acceptable. For more information, please visit the individual graduate programme pages.
Our HR Summer Placement Programme will see you undertaking a key project within the business. HR is a hugely varied, strategic and hands-on area of the business and whatever project you do will ultimately help our business meet critical goals and objectives. For more information, please visit the individual graduate programme pages.
Our in-house Information Systems (IS) team supports the business from the initial purchase of energy to the accurate billing of our customers. These UK-wide placements will suit students who have an interest in technology but who can also display a wide range of skills, particularly the ability to present complex ideas clearly and simply. For more information, please visit the individual graduate programme pages.
On our Marketing & Insight Summer Placement Programme, you will work within our British Gas business. Energy is an extremely dynamic market and this an exciting time within the Marketing & Insight team. During your placement, you will undertake a project with real responsibility that will help to shape our business strategy. For more information, please visit the individual graduate programme pages.
Our Procurement and Supply Chain Graduate Programme enables inquisitive, commercially astute graduates to access all aspects of our organisation and understand the energy supply chain – from Upstream oil and gas exploration through the retailing of energy to businesses and customers. Our approach to procurement is not solely focussed on cost; we ensure that our supply chains are ethically sourced and that our suppliers hold the same high standards that we do and can bring new value to our business.
Our Subsurface teams do the vital work of securing reserves for the future. Based in Aberdeen or Windsor, you will apply your technical knowledge to live projects that are crucial to the success of our business – working closely with experienced mentors and gain a good understanding of our upstream operations. You will ideally be studying for a relevant BSc degree and applying to do an MSc in Petroleum Geology, Exploration Geophysics, Geophysics, or Structural Geology and Exploration Geophysics. For more information, please visit the individual graduate programme pages.
The best thing about my role is that I get to travel quite a lot – at the very start of my placement I went to Amsterdam for a 3D model review. I've learned so much beyond the scope of my work here at Centrica and it's not about to stop.
2013 Engineering Summer Placement
In return for your hard work and initiative, we will give you the support to make the most of the experience. You'll be:
Beyond this support, we will provide you with accommodation close to your placement. With other students also based in the area, you'll have a ready-made network wherever you end up.
The Summer Placement Programme offers a real-life look at what it might mean to be a Centrica graduate. If you perform well in your placement, you could even return to your university with an offer to join the graduate programme after your graduation.
To be eligible for most placements, you should be at least in your penultimate year of study and on target to gain at least a 2:1 in your degree. Alternatively you could be about to start a Master's degree.
If you're interested in applying for an Engineering or Subsurface placement, you should be in the final year of a relevant degree, aiming for at least a 2:1, with the view of continuing your studies in a relevant Master's degree after the summer. Due to the remote locations involved in the Engineering programme, this placement also requires a full driving licence.
The programme is your opportunity to be considered for a graduate role next September and so you should be looking (and eligible) to start a graduate career then. We will also consider final-year students and recent graduates who are looking to delay the start of their graduate career until the year after completing the summer placement programme.
