Programme information

Duration: 10 weeks (with 5 days' paid holiday)

Locations: UK-wide, with accommodation provided locally

Salary: £14,000 pro rata

Entry requirement:- Minimum 2:1 degree. You should be in your penultimate year but we accept applications from final year & postgraduate students providing you have a plan to return in September 2016, if you are successful in securing a graduate position with us after your 10 weeks.

What does it involve?

Our 10-week Summer Placement Programme is designed to increase your future employment prospects and provide a valuable resource to the business. During your placement you'll work on real projects with real responsibility, while benefiting from a wide support network of colleagues, a line manager and the Central Graduates team. Our aim is to help you build your strengths, gain skills that can be transferred to any workplace and stand out from the crowd. Our summer placements will appeal to self-motivated, penultimate-year students with a proactive, can-do attitude and a genuine desire to learn about our business and industry.

Your placement will be in one of the following areas:

The Analyst Summer Placement Programme will see you undertaking a project within a diverse array of teams and functions across the Centrica Group to gain a detailed insight into a career as an analyst. We are looking for highly numerate and driven individuals who appreciate that energy businesses are driven by many factors. Minimum requirements: 2:1 degree or Masters (with 2:2 degree minimum) in a numerical subject. You must be in your penultimate or final year of study.

Midstream is our window on the world. Fast-paced and entrepreneurial, this innovative business lets us compete in the global wholesale market with great success. From creating hedging strategies for our energy production operations across the UK and Europe to securing our first US LNG export contract, Midstream is a British company with worldwide ambition. We're looking for the best analytical brains to secure its future.

Minimum requirements: 2:1 degree or Masters (with 2:2 degree minimum) in a numerical subject. You must be in your penultimate or final year of study.

On the Customer Operations Programme, you will work within our British Gas business. Your project will give you the opportunity to work with a variety of different people, across a wide range of operations in our frontline business to develop your skills. Our UK-wide Engineering placements offer mechanical, electrical, chemical and control & instrumentation student engineers a great opportunity to experience gas processing, electricity generation and gas storage. Minimum requirements: In final year of study, with expected minimum 2:1 MEng degree or penultimate year of study with expected minimum 2:1 MEng degree.

The Finance stream of our Summer Placement Programme is a chance to see if a career in finance might be for you. You'll work with finance professionals who'll show you the key role finance plays in the energy industry and how finance supports our whole organisation. All degree disciplines are acceptable. Minimum requirements: Equivalent to BBB at A-Levels and a 2:1 degree in any discipline. You must be in your penultimate or final year of study.

This exciting scheme gives you a real-life look at a graduate career with us, and how you could help us understand, manage and reduce the ecological and human impact of our activities. Our in-house Information Systems (IS) team supports the business from the initial purchase of energy to the accurate billing of our customers. These UK-wide placements will suit students who have an interest in technology but who can also display a wide range of skills, particularly the ability to present complex ideas clearly and simply. Our Procurement and Supply Chain Graduate Programme enables inquisitive, commercially astute graduates to access all aspects of our organisation and understand the energy supply chain – from Upstream oil and gas exploration through the retailing of energy to businesses and customers. What you can expect from us

In return for your hard work and initiative, we will give you the support to make the most of the experience. You'll be:

  • Supported by a graduate talent manager assigned to your business area and responsible for overseeing your performance and development
  • Paired with a 'buddy' from our previous graduate or summer placement intake to help you settle in and answer any questions
  • Assigned a line manager with experience of the area of business in which you are placed
  • Further supported by the Central Graduate team, who are always on hand to help you get the best from the placement

Beyond this support, we will provide you with accommodation close to your placement. With other students also based in the area, you'll have a ready-made network wherever you end up.
