Jo joined the Centrica Graduates programme in 2006 in search of a new challenge and the opportunity to use the skills she had developed in her previous career (teaching English for Business at Toyota, Mitsubishi, etc. in Japan) in a UK corporate environment.
Whilst on the programme, Jo spent time on the phones in Service and Repair, worked at the National Distribution Centre, and in the field, where she managed a team of Service Managers on a heating upgrades project. She designed and delivered the Management Development Programme for 350 level 6 & 7 managers in CHI and the Potential Manager Programme for CHI engineers; facilitated the 'Back to Basics 2' training for Team Managers at Talbot Road and trained colleagues on using My HR. On the Talent Management team, she initiated & led a project to match middle managers as mentors for the 2006 and 2007 graduates, and co-ordinated project teams for 100 leaders and HR leaders to build the Centrica leadership behaviours.
After leaving the programme, Jo was HR Manager for British Gas Community Energy, providing advice and support to line managers on HR issues and involved in strategic decision making on future business direction. She then moved to Service and Repair and was responsible for Competence and Training as part of the transition to FSA regulated status. She is now Management Development Manager in Service & Repair, designing and delivering development solutions to our operational managers.
Jo loves the outdoors, and at weekends is frequently found hiking in the Peak District with her two labradors - usually walking to a good country pub (she is a member of the Campaign for Real Ale). Jo loves swimming, yoga, horse riding and football (she is a big fan of Wolverhampton Wanderers). She also enjoys cooking and travelling and can speak Portuguese and Japanese.
Jo describes herself as creative and determined; qualities she hopes will help her achieve career goals in L&D.
Jo has a BA in French & European Studies from Bradford University, a Master's degree in English as a Foreign Language from Manchester University, and a PgDip in Human Resource Management from the University of Salford.
