My first taste of Centrica came in June 2007 on the Summer Placement Scheme. I was responsible for a project to roll out email and internet access across our Customer Service Agents (CSAs) in British Gas. After completing my studies I then rejoined Centrica on the Customer Operations Graduate Programme.
On the programme I completed four placements. The first was in one of our major call centres in Leeds, where I became a Team Manager with my own team of 14 CSAs. My second placement took me to our Staines head office where I worked within the Brand Strategy team on projects to deliver the British Gas brand promise. I then moved to our Services business in Glasgow, managing several customer experience projects as part of an initiative to share best practice across British Gas. My final placement was working with the Renewable Heat team in British Gas New Energy, a very exciting part of the business that helps householders and businesses increase their energy efficiency and adopt low carbon technologies.
Since completing the graduate scheme I have remained in British Gas New Energy and am now responsible for developing new propositions for the business across energy efficiency products, microgeneration and renewable heat. I am also the Graduate Talent Manager for Customer Operations, looking after the strategy of the programme, the development of the graduates and the placement rotation process. The energy industry is in the midst of dynamic change, and Centrica is really embracing these opportunities. I can't think of a more exciting place to be.
