Sir Roger joined the Board as a Non-Executive Director on 1 January 2001. He was appointed Chairman of the Board in May 2004 and is Chairman of the Nominations Committee. He is a member of the UK Prime Minister's Business Advisory Group and is a member of the CBI having been the CBI president between 2011 and 2013. He remains deputy chairman and senior independent director of the Court of the Bank of England. He is also a senior adviser to Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and a trustee of the Landau Forte Charitable Trust. He has previously held a number of senior appointments including chairman of Mitchells & Butlers plc and Cadbury plc. He is a fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of the Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce and a visiting fellow to the Said Business School, Oxford. Throughout his career he has served on a number of external committees including the Higgs Committee on Corporate Governance and Business for New Europe.
Sir Roger will step down as Chairman of the Board on 31 December 2013 following his decision to join the board of BAE Systems plc where he has been chairman designate from 1 October 2013.
